"Bastendorf, what's up with that background? It doesn't even tangentially relate to you blog or interests."
No one has ever asked me this, but I'm answering it anyway.
So what's up with my background? Nothing. It has no special value to me. The story behind it isn't really that interesting. When I was setting up my account, it asked me for a theme for my blog. The backgrounds included are all extremely generic, and there isn't a lot of variety to them. Nothing even comes close to fitting my hobby as a game developer, so I just went with the only one that didn't give entirely the wrong message.
It wouldn't be that hard to grab a video-game related background and upload it, but I don't know if I can. I mean, I definitely can, there's an option for it, but I mean, I don't know if I could.
What I'm trying to say is, imagine it this way: let's say I pick a Super Mario related background. It would be much more thematically accurate, but I feel like it would give the wrong idea. See, if my blog says "dev blog" and the background is all Super Mario, people are going to come to the conclusion that I work for Nintendo. And though that would probably get me more traffic, I don't really feel like engaging in clickbait, and I definitely don't want to ride the coat-tails of Nintendo. I have far too much pride to use another studio as a leg up.
Naturally, the other option would be to make my own with all of my own OC, but with the amount of work that goes into my game every day, I haven't had the time or energy to embark on something like that. So, for now, it remains some kind of dock/sea background.
