Alright, I just got done with the map. Area 7 was the most challenging, because I needed to have a good reason for it to be the biggest area. Area 7 is where the final fight of the game takes place, I wanted to make it realistic, and aside from making the final boss chamber unreachable, the only way to make it more realistic is by making it tougher to reach the final boss than it was to reach any of the other bosses. That boss doesn't want you to get to her chamber. Of course, making it impossible to get to it would be the most realistic, as I mentioned, but because this is a video game, making it so you can't reach the game's climax wouldn't be fun for anyone.
I won't be showing off the map for several reasons, though. First, I don't want to reveal the size of the game before I release it. So, yes, it will be absent from the demo.
Second, the map is currently color-coded and labelled to remind me of where I want all the game's goodies to go, where the bosses are, where the save rooms are located, shortcuts, etc. Of course I realize that someone, somewhere, will at some point release a screenshot of the game map marked with locations of everything. I'm not going to do anything to stop that. I just don't want that coming out before the game is ready. Because that will make the game that much less challenging.
Third, there's not much to see. It's a bland map made up of boxes. If you want to know what the map resembles, look up Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow's map. The layout for my game is entirely different, but the map is going to be displayed the exact same way, with a very similar design.
There are a few other reasons I'm avoiding sharing the map, but they're small. Like, for example, I may rebuild parts, or add to it, so if I were to show it now, it might not be the same later.
I still have a few more things to program in, and the sounds and music is needed before I can share the demo, but it's nearly ready to go, and I promise to get it out as soon as possible, so long as my controller and headphones don't give out.
